If you are planning to install a 12v power inverter on your vehicle, the first thing you need to do is select the appropriate type of inverter. Determine whether you need a 12v dc to 110 ac inverter or a 12v to 120v inverter. Never forget to read your vehicle’s manual to know what type of power inverter is applicable for the of your car model.

Once you have finished evaluating the initial phase, you can start scouring for different brands of 12v power inverters. When you have found the applicable type of inverter for your vehicle, you need to carefully read and understand the included manual. Familiarize yourself with the inverters’ specifications and installation requirements. This is necessary to ensure that the inverter will be properly installed into the vehicle.

After reading the manual, the next thing to do is to inspect the inverter’s package to ascertain that all the needed components are included in the box. You certainly wouldn’t want to come across delays when you find out that a part is missing. When you have ensured that all the inverter’s components are present, you have to select a location where you can safely and securely mount the inverter. It is highly recommended to mount the inverter rather than just simply placing it somewhere. Since it will be subjected to bumpy road movements, most inverters come with self taping screws, which are used to securely fasten the inverter into the location where you plan to install it. You may need a power drill to effectively attach the self taping screws. Once the inverter has been securely fastened, you now need to run the electrical wirings.

Whether you are installing a 12 dc inverter or a 12 ac inverter, it is much safer to run a high gauge wire directly from the positive terminal of the battery to the positive terminal of the 12v inverter. Always follow the manufacturer’s recommendation on the gauge of wire needed basing on the distance of the inverter from the battery.

Lastly, you need to connect the black negative wire to either the clean solid spot on the automotive vehicle or the negative terminal on the battery. Keep in mind that automotive vehicles are negatively grounded hence it is necessary to run the negative wiring all the way to battery.
