Different Types of Car Heaters Explained
The comfort of travelers has long been a problem with protection from the cold being of the most concern. This problem was true prior to the automobile’s invention and it was one of the earliest problems addressed by automobile manufacturers. Car heating systems were invented in the late 19th Century and have raised the comfort level of passengers. They have gone through many changes to meet the need of car users. The radiator and fan system invented and introduced in early last century heating systems are the foundation of modern designs.
Car heaters are available in various styles. Today’s cars have heating systems operated by dashboard mounted controls. The controls regulate heat temperature, heater fan strength, and direct the air circulation air into the vehicle whether it is to the left or right or up and down. It can be pointed at the windshield for defrosting or defogging. Passenger comfort is also considered and the heated air can be selected to warm the feet or the rest of the body. Some cars have different zone controls that include driver and passengers in both the front and back seats.
Vehicle climate control units are also available. These systems operate automatically once they are set. With an interface, the user chooses a temperature for the vehicle and specifies the air direction, and its blowing strength. Sensors in the system to control the climate detect the vehicle’s temperature and change it to meet the temperature selected by the user.
The heating choices for a modern car owner include portable heaters. Today there are heaters that connect to the car battery or ones that work from the 12-volt cigarette lighter. Portable car heaters are made for several different applications. Some are intended to heat the entire car or to be used for the back seat only. There are also small units that mount on the dashboard for the purpose of defogging or defrosting the car’s windshield. None of these portable units are intended to replace a broken heating system but to act as a supplement for the car’s built-in system.
Today’s drivers have numerous choices in the selection of the kind of heater suitable for their car. With careful thought and shopping drivers can ensure the interior comfort of their vehicles. In fact, the correct heater model means that the car can be made as comfortable as or more comfortable than a driver’s home.
