Motorized Scooters

[ 0 ] October 25, 2009 | admin

Motorized scooters are generally one of the hottest rides in the market today. They are much cheaper alternatives for four-wheel drives. Motor scooters are technically sold in three engine sizes – 50cc, 150cc and 250cc (wherein cc stands for cubic centimeters). However, some automotive manufacturers offer other engine sizes like 125cc as well as those more than 250cc, which are often called as “Maxi-scoots”. When purchasing motor scooters, the size of the engine is absolutely a major consideration. That is why familiarity on engine sizes can greatly help you to choose the one that best suit your needs and preference.

Keep in mind that the size of the scooter’s engine will determine how fast your ride can go. Therefore, the choice of engine size will greatly depend on how fast you want to drive. Typically, 50cc scooters have a maximum speed of 35 to 40 miles per hour. However, heavier riders will most likely experience lower top speed. For riders who will be using them to drive on roads that are less than 40 mph, a 50cc scooter can absolutely give you the best gas mileage even more than 100mph in some cases.

If you are looking for a ride running at a maximum speed of 50 to 60 miles per hour, then you have to opt for 150cc scooters. They are ideal for those who will be occasionally traversing highways. But larger engines produce lesser gas mileage, usually around the 70 mpg range. While a 150cc gas motor scooter can handle occasional highway runs, it shouldn’t be used for running the highways in longer miles as well as shorter trips on crowded highways. This is because your presence will most likely upset other drivers especially those with vehicles bigger than yours. To avoid unprecedented accidents, riding scooters on highways with longer miles is not tolerated.

The 250cc scooters normally have a maximum speed of 75 miles per hour or more. Heavier riders who have the need for speed will definitely benefit from a 250cc scooter. However, the big engine will keep gas mileage below the 60mpg range.

Aside from the size of the engine, the type of the motor scooter is also an important factor. Motorized scooters can be classified into two popular types, the electric and gas powered. Electric motor scooters are capable of running at highway speeds. However, they are not ideal for those who want to save some bucks. They usually retail at $11,000 and up which can be quite expensive for frugal buyers. As a more economical alternative, many opt for gas motor scooters. You can practically find lots of cheap motor scooters by exhausting online and offline automotive stores.

Whether you like vespa motor scooters or razor motor scooters, be sure to pick your ride according to the engine size that will provide the gas and speed mileage you want to obtain, the price tag as well as your personal style and driving habits!
