There are many things that people like to do to their ride to help the appearance of it. Some will wash and wax it daily while others like to do modifications to it. Whether or not you are hands on or like to have it done by others, the fact remains clear you can save quite a bit of money by tinting the windows on your car all by yourself. You need to have patience, time, and some skill but it can be done.
The first thing you need to do is properly clean your windows so there is no grime or dirt left on them. Then, you can make a template by fitting the tint to the outside of the window before you cut out the exact size you need. Be sure to measure twice and just cut once as tint can be pricey if you keep ruining roll after roll.
From there, you can use a sharp blade and cut out the tint from the roll and then prepare the inside surface to stick on the film. Be sure to really get it wet as this allows you to be able to move around the tints and not get them creased, wrinkled, or allow air to get stuck behind it. Each of those things is bad and can lead to some terrible looking jobs.
You want to do it right the first time so be sure to take some deep breathes and take a break if you feel frustration is setting in. From there, you can use a squeegee and be sure to get all the water and spray out from behind the film and any small bubbles should be able to come out this way too. If not, you may have to do that window all over.
The hardest thing about DIY window tinting is the rear window. You have to cut all around the little defroster lines and this alone can take an hour or more. Slow is the key. If you can get by this step you are home free to a great job.
